Hai Phong Halts Independent Fishing Vessel Decommissioning Policy
The Hai Phong People's Committee has proposed halting the development of a separate policy for fishing vessel decommissioning. Instead, support for decommissioning and fisherman retraining will be integrated into broader agricultural and rural economic development policies for 2026-2030. This decision follows a review of existing agricultural support policies and aims to align with national rural development regulations. Initially, 204 vessels were identified for decommissioning with financial incentives proposed for vessel owners and crew. However, recent developments, including voluntary vessel dismantling by owners and new vessel registrations, have reduced the need for a standalone policy. The integration ensures consistent support for the agriculture sector, including aquaculture and seafood exploitation.
