Fresh Limes Plummet in Price, Only 2,000 - 2,500 VND/kg
Lime prices have dropped dramatically in Tien Giang Province, Vietnam, reaching as low as 2,000 VND/kg. Farmers like Mr. Pham Van Ro in Cai Be District are struggling to break even, as current prices barely cover labor costs. He explained that a price of at least 6,000 VND/kg is needed to make a profit. The oversupply of limes has resulted in a stagnant market, leaving many orchards with unsold fruit. Mr. Huynh Thanh Nha, another farmer in the region, recently sold his limes for 2,000 - 2,500 VND/kg, incurring significant losses despite a harvest of 3,000 square meters. High input costs for fertilizer and pesticides further exacerbate the problem. With prices significantly lower than the previous high of nearly 20,000 VND/kg, many farmers are considering abandoning their lime orchards and transitioning to other crops due to the unsustainable economic returns.
