Farmers Brave Cold to Tend to Spring Rice
The spring rice sowing in Ha Tinh province for the 2025 season is nearly complete. Farmers are braving the severe cold to ensure a successful harvest. While most of the 59,200 hectares planned for cultivation have been sown, some areas face irrigation challenges and are working to finish by February 15th. Many farmers returned to their fields soon after the Tet holiday, tending to young rice paddies despite the biting cold. Activities include thinning seedlings to the recommended density, irrigating to maintain warmth, and preparing for the first round of top dressing to promote growth. In Can Loc district, where the spring rice is in the rooting and tillering stage, farmers are actively monitoring for pests and diseases. Provincial agricultural officials advise farmers to regulate water for cold protection, thin seedlings, apply top dressing, and monitor for pests and diseases to ensure a healthy and productive spring rice harvest.
