Enhancing Value of Tra Fish Industry through By-products
Dong Thap province, a key player in Vietnam's tra fish industry, produces over 500,000 tons of tra fish annually. This significant output supplies both domestic and global markets, with exports adhering to stringent quality controls and holding certifications like HACCP and BAP. Leading companies like Vinh Hoan Corporation and Truong Giang Seafood Joint Stock Company contribute significantly to this export market, reaching over 134 countries. Beyond traditional fillets, these companies are increasingly focusing on value-added products derived from tra fish by-products. Processing generates substantial waste, but companies are now utilizing by-products like skin and fat to create products such as collagen, gelatin, and fish oil, minimizing environmental impact while maximizing profits. This shift towards utilizing by-products not only increases revenue but also aligns with sustainable practices, contributing to the overall growth and value of the Vietnamese tra fish industry.
