Easy On-Field Straw Treatment Boosts Rice Production in Vietnam
In Kien Giang, Vietnam, farmers are using microbial agents like SUMITRI to turn straw into organic fertilizer directly on the field. This method, showcased at Thanh Thang Agricultural Cooperative, significantly reduces costs and improves rice production. By decomposing straw quickly, the process enriches the soil, inhibits weeds, and reduces the need for chemical fertilizers by 15-20%. This innovative approach also minimizes diseases like root knot and rice blast, promoting healthier crops. Furthermore, it eliminates the need for field burning, reducing air pollution and supporting Vietnam's commitment to sustainable agriculture practices. The Giong Rieng District, with its extensive rice cultivation, aims to expand this eco-friendly method to meet growing demands and contribute to the national goal of one million hectares of high-quality, low-emission rice production by 2030.
