Dong Thap to Expand High-Quality Rice Cultivation by 50,000 Hectares in 2025
Dong Thap province plans to cultivate at least 50,000 more hectares of high-quality rice by 2025 as part of a larger Mekong Delta initiative. This project emphasizes sustainable farming practices like reducing seed, fertilizer, and pesticide use, as well as water conservation. Farmers will implement methods like "1 Must, 5 Reductions" and the Sustainable Rice Platform standards. The province aims to connect farmers with businesses and cooperatives to improve production and distribution, increase mechanization, and minimize post-harvest losses. Ultimately, the goal is to boost farmer profits, increase the value of the rice produced, and raise the export volume of high-quality rice.
