Dong Thap Pioneers Agricultural Restructuring
Dong Thap province is leading the way in agricultural restructuring in the Mekong Delta. Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Mr. Pham Thien Nghia, stated that after nearly 10 years, the project has successfully shifted the focus from agricultural production to an agricultural economy. This involves applying science and technology, modernizing infrastructure, and connecting producers with consumers. The province prioritizes market-driven agriculture, leveraging its strengths while adhering to social and environmental standards. The goal is 'reducing costs, improving quality, and increasing processed products' to improve livelihoods and achieve sustainable development. Key industries include rice, mango, and flowers and ornamental plants. While progress has been made, challenges remain, such as developing robust value chains and improving market access. Dong Thap aims to become a model for ecological agriculture, incorporating digital transformation and climate change adaptation.
