Del Monte Named SEAL Business Sustainability Winner Again
Fresh Del Monte Produce has been awarded the 2025 SEAL Business Sustainability Award for its environmental initiatives, demonstrating leadership in sustainable business practices. The company exceeded its goal of reducing Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gases by 27.5 percent, achieving this seven years ahead of its 2030 target. This is the fourth SEAL Award Del Monte has received in the last five years, highlighting the company's dedication to minimizing its environmental impact. Hans Sauter, Fresh Del Monte's Chief Sustainability Officer and Senior Vice President of Corporate R&D and Agriculture, stated that while exceeding the reduction targets is a significant accomplishment, the company remains committed to further reducing its environmental footprint with a new goal of a 30 percent reduction by 2030. As an early adopter of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), Del Monte established specific, measurable targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. These targets align with the Paris Agreement's goal of limiting global warming. Del Monte's success stems from strategic initiatives such as upgrading its North American shipping fleet for greater fuel efficiency and introducing carbon-neutral pineapples. The company also leverages technology to optimize agricultural practices and minimize emissions. SEAL Awards Founder Matt Harney noted a growing trend of companies implementing detailed strategies to achieve sustainability improvements.
