Cooperatives as the Core of Fruit Production Linkages for Export
An Giang prioritizes cooperatives to organize fruit production and linkages for both domestic and global export markets. With a cultivation area of 20,000 hectares and an output of over 350,000 tons in 2023, An Giang is a major fruit production center in the Mekong Delta. Key fresh fruit products include mango, banana, durian, longan, and jackfruit. The province has 514 planting area codes for domestic and export markets, including the US, EU, Japan, and South Korea. Cooperatives facilitate large-scale production, mitigating risks in fruit sales. By 2030, An Giang aims to have 50% of its fruit cultivation area certified according to VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards. The Cù Lao Giêng GAP Cooperative, with over 100 members and 243 hectares, produces over 1,700 tons of mangoes annually and has secured export contracts with major companies. Collaboration with foreign companies further expands market access for An Giang's fruits. The province is also promoting sustainable production practices, technology application in preservation, and attracting investment in modern processing plants to enhance competitiveness in the international market.
