Cheap Eggs Flood Ho Chi Minh City
Street vendors and markets across Ho Chi Minh City are overflowing with cheap eggs. Large eggs are selling for just 2,000 VND each, while smaller ones can be found for as little as 1,500 VND. This significant price drop, almost 50% compared to pre-Lunar New Year prices, is attributed to a surplus of unsold eggs after the long Tet holiday. Wholesale suppliers are offering even lower prices, forcing farmers to reduce their prices to clear inventory. The oversupply is due to the extended holiday coupled with lower consumer demand. While most of these cheap eggs are older stock, even fresh egg prices have seen a slight decrease. Experts advise consumers to purchase from reputable sources to ensure quality and food safety, while farmers and traders hope for prices to rebound as purchasing power recovers.
