Building a Safe Vegetable and Fruit Hub in the Highlands
Mu Cang Chai, a highland district in Yen Bai province, Vietnam, is transforming its agricultural landscape. The region's cool climate and terraced fields, once seen as limitations, are now being utilized to grow high-value, off-season crops. The district government is collaborating with agencies and businesses to implement modern agricultural techniques and support farmers in cultivating fresh fruit trees like seedless crispy persimmons, which thrive in the local climate. This initiative has led to the development of nearly 450 hectares of fruit orchards. Beyond fruit, Mu Cang Chai is also promoting the cultivation of safe vegetables such as oyster mushrooms, bell peppers, and tomatoes in designated areas exceeding 50 hectares. This focus on safe agricultural practices aims to establish Mu Cang Chai as a key producer of high-quality, organically grown produce.
