Binh Dinh Witnesses a Blooming Organic Agriculture Model
Binh Dinh province is witnessing a significant increase in organic agriculture. According to Mr. Tran Van Phuc, Director of the Binh Dinh Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, 185 agricultural cooperatives are operating in the province, with 7 transitioning to organic production. Three cooperatives in Hoai An district are converting to organic rice farming, producing 3-star OCOP (One Commune One Product) certified rice. The Agribio Organic Agricultural Cooperative in Phu My district produces organically certified mushrooms, including King Oyster and Lingzhi, achieving a 4-star OCOP ranking. Other cooperatives are focusing on organic vegetables and fruits like Gotu Kola and Water Spinach. Hoai An district leads the province in organic rice production with 17 hectares per crop, thanks to pioneers like An Tin Agricultural Cooperative. An Tin cooperative produces 5.5 hectares of organic rice annually, using composted manure and biological pest control. Their organic rice sells for 28,000 VND/kg and enjoys increasing consumer demand. Binh Dinh province is also promoting organic fruit tree cultivation, with nearly 122 hectares of certified organic pomelo, coconut, and vegetables. Farmers like Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thuong in Hoai An district are successfully growing organic green-skinned pomelo and Rose Apple, utilizing drip irrigation and securing guaranteed sales through local cooperatives. The province is actively encouraging sustainable agricultural practices through training, promoting composting over chemical fertilizers, and fostering environmentally friendly farming methods to enhance product value and prestige.
