Big Win Through Persistence in Organic Orange Farming
Inquiring about sustainable farming in Nghi Loc District, Mr. Tran Nguyen Hoa praised Nghi Van Agricultural Service Cooperative as a shining example. Director Le Cong Chat achieved remarkable success with organic orange and grapefruit cultivation, even when citrus farming in Nghe An province was declining. Five years ago, Mr. Chat took over a failing farm, despite having no prior experience in crop cultivation. He consulted experts, researched tirelessly, and committed to long-term soil improvement and a closed-loop system. Rejecting short-sighted approaches, he invested in building a sustainable ecosystem. He raises cows and fish, using their waste as organic fertilizer for his orange trees, supplementing with corn, soybeans, and kitchen ash. This organic farming process, though initially expensive, yields long-term benefits. The farm's oranges sell for a premium, around 40,000 VND/kg, sometimes exceeding 60,000 VND/kg. His annual harvest of 60-70 tons generates nearly 2.4 billion VND in revenue. Mr. Chat attributes his success to persistent organic practices, emphasizing the importance of each stage in orange cultivation, from sprouting to fruit bagging, without chemical intervention. He remains committed to organic, circular, and ecological production for long-term sustainability.
