Awakening the Potential of Barren Land in Nghe An with Organic Farming
Born in 1982, Nguyen Van Thanh, Director of Thanh Vinh Agricultural Cooperative in Nghe An province, has transformed barren land into thriving fields. In just five years, he has successfully cultivated high-value crops like cucumbers and zucchini using organic farming methods. His vision extends beyond personal gain, aiming to empower the community through collaborative efforts. Starting with 8.5 hectares in 2020, Thanh Vinh Cooperative now spans nearly 150 hectares across several districts. Thanh's experience in other provinces and his commitment to clear product consumption contracts have earned the trust of local farmers, transitioning them from low-yield corn to profitable organic crops. Cucumbers, with a guaranteed minimum purchase price, ensure a stable income, while specialty crops like Great Burdock offer even higher profit potential. The cooperative's investment in advanced agricultural infrastructure, including drip irrigation and trellising, further enhances productivity. With plans for a processing factory, Thanh Vinh Cooperative aims to expand its organic farming model throughout Nghe An, supported by the Nghe An Agricultural Extension Center for sustainable practices like circular agriculture.
