Australian Horticulture Production Value Reaches A$17 Billion
Australia's horticulture sector reached A$17 billion in total production value, a 4.3 percent increase, according to the Australian Horticulture Statistics Handbook 2023/24 from Hort Innovation. Overall production rose by 6.6 percent to 6.89 million tonnes, demonstrating the resilience of Australian growers. Fruit, including berries and citrus, experienced significant growth, with citrus exceeding A$1 billion in value for the first time. This growth was fueled by strong fresh market supply and a record high of nearly A$3 billion in export values. Favorable growing conditions and strategic advancements in global export markets contributed to the positive results. Rising consumer demand for healthy snacks like berries has opened up new opportunities for growers, with new genetics and expanded market access in Asia expected to drive future growth.
