Analysis: New Zealand's Fruit Exports Rebound
After a challenging period, New Zealand's fresh fruit exports have returned to growth. Last year, exports saw a significant 21% increase, reaching 1.16 million tonnes with a value of US$2.76 billion. This positive result aligns with the country's long-term growth trend. New Zealand's export-oriented fruit industry accounts for approximately 85% of its total fresh fruit production. The country is known for its high-quality fresh fruit and clean growing practices, particularly for kiwifruit and apples. Kiwifruit leads New Zealand's fruit export portfolio, representing a 65.9% volume share. In 2024, kiwifruit volume surged by 41% to 784,785 tonnes, valued at US$2.01 billion. Apples remain a significant export, comprising 32% of fresh fruit exports. Last year, apple exports increased by 9.4% to 376,089 tonnes. Avocados, now the third-largest fruit export, experienced a substantial 66% increase in sales last year, reaching 16,723 tonnes.
