Alto Mayo Coffee Arrives in Japan
The Alto Mayo Forest Multi-Service Cooperative (COOPBAM) exported its first five tons of organic coffee to Japan. This shipment strengthens Peruvian coffee's presence in the Asian country and opens valuable opportunities within the global export market. This achievement provides coffee growers in the San Martín region, who cultivate coffee beans under sustainable practices, access to a new, demanding market. COOPBAM's legal representative, Idelso Fernández, emphasized that this success strengthens Alto Mayo's coffee production chain and connects producers with international markets that value sustainability. COOPBAM, with 462 members, implements agroforestry practices that promote biodiversity and soil conservation. Prior to shipment, representatives from the Japanese company Mamenoki visited the Alto Mayo Protection Forest to learn about local coffee cultivation and participate in training on sustainable production standards.
