Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries Start Strong
Vietnam's agriculture sector started 2025 strong. Winter-spring rice cultivation area increased to 2,020.2 thousand hectares, exceeding the previous year's figures. Pig and poultry farming thrived, meeting the increased demand for the Lunar New Year holiday. Aquaculture production also saw significant growth, with a total seafood output of 594.1 thousand tons. The General Statistics Office reported that favorable weather conditions allowed northern farmers to plant rice ahead of schedule. Southern regions, including the Mekong Delta, also saw increases in rice planting. Forestry activities included afforestation efforts, with 8.2 thousand hectares of newly planted forest. Increased timber output was attributed to dry weather and high raw material prices. However, there was also a rise in damaged forest area due to fires and illegal logging. The livestock sector saw growth in pig and poultry farming, driven by stable prices and strong consumer demand. Aquaculture, particularly pangasius farming, experienced significant growth due to rising prices and export demand.
