Agricultural, Forestry, and Fishery Exports Strive for $100 Billion
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has set an ambitious goal for Vietnam's agricultural sector: $100 billion in agricultural, forestry, and fishery exports. He highlighted nine critical areas for development, including improvements to institutions and policies, better planning, and expanded market access. At the Prime Minister's Conference on Dialogue with Farmers in 2024, farmers voiced concerns and offered suggestions for government action. The Prime Minister acknowledged the sector's contributions, noting the $62.5 billion in export turnover achieved in 2024, an 18.7% increase over 2023. This resulted in a $17.9 billion trade surplus, representing 72% of the nation's total. To reach the $100 billion target, the Prime Minister stressed the need for policy reform, citing past successes like Decree 10 and Decree 100 that transformed Vietnam into a leading rice exporter. He also emphasized the importance of land use planning, capital and insurance access, and leveraging science and technology for agricultural advancements. Expanding export markets, promoting high-quality human resource training, and understanding farmers' needs were also identified as crucial steps.
