Action Plan for the Agricultural Biotechnology Development Project in Vietnam
The Vietnamese government recently announced Decision No. 4489/QĐ-BNN-KHCN, outlining an action plan for agricultural biotechnology development until 2030. The plan aims to promote the use of biotechnology in agriculture through information dissemination and education, showcasing successful businesses, and encouraging the use of domestically produced biotechnology products. Key initiatives include reviewing existing policies to incentivize research and development, improving biosafety regulations, and developing superior crop, livestock, and aquaculture varieties. The plan emphasizes mastering gene technologies and establishing a DNA database for indigenous genetic resources. It also promotes developing new vaccines, bio-products for pest control, and rapid detection kits for diseases and soil/water quality. The action plan prioritizes training skilled personnel and upgrading research infrastructure. The Ministry will support biotechnology businesses through technology imports and facilitate the development of industrial-scale enterprises. International collaboration is encouraged to enhance technology transfer and research capacity. Finally, a comprehensive database on agricultural biotechnology will be established and connected to the national agricultural science and technology database.
