2024 Agricultural Production Meets Domestic and Export Demand
Despite challenges from complex weather conditions, particularly Storm No. 3's severe impact on northern Vietnam, agricultural production in 2024 saw positive growth. Proactive disaster prevention and mitigation efforts by the government ensured domestic and export demands were met. Rice production, a key agricultural product in Vietnam, reached 43.46 million tons, a slight decrease from 2023 due to storm damage impacting Autumn rice yield in the north. However, strategic shifts towards intensive farming and improved rice varieties helped maintain sufficient supply for domestic consumption and export. While rice output saw a minor decrease, the overall agricultural sector demonstrated resilience. The Mekong Delta region played a crucial role, with increased rice production in the Winter-Spring and Summer-Autumn crops, offsetting losses in other regions. Beyond rice, other agricultural products experienced varied outcomes. Perennial crops like coffee and rubber saw increased output, while fruits like durian and mango also showed growth. However, longan and lychee production decreased significantly due to the storm.
