1 Million Hectares of High-Quality Rice: Tra Vinh Leads in Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction
Tra Vinh province is demonstrating success in the 1 million hectare high-quality rice project. Pilot models in Chau Thanh district show significant greenhouse gas emission reductions compared to traditional farming methods. In the Summer-Autumn and Autumn-Winter 2024 seasons, reductions reached 8.18 and 5.75 tons of CO2 equivalent per hectare, respectively. This success is attributed to thorough straw collection. Yields and profits also increased, with Summer-Autumn yields up 3 quintals per hectare and profits rising 20%. Tra Vinh plans to expand the project in 2025, aiming for 10,550 hectares of high-quality rice production while continuing to prioritize efficient straw collection for emission reduction.
